About the Author

Hi, I’m Drew. I’ve been living a fully remote life with a full-time job for a few years now. Based outside of Seattle in Bremerton, Washington, I live a remote-friendly life and am often off working and traveling somewhere.

After spending five years working in the Bay Area, I knew I wanted the freedom to live and work from anywhere. I enjoyed my career and stuck out the office life until a few years ago when the right fully remote job came my way. Since then I’ve been working and living abroad. I’ve been writing down everything I’ve learned during covid-19 and want to enable other working professionals to live a remote-friendly lifestyle abroad as well. And the best part is your boss doesn’t even need to know.

I first considered a remote friendly lifestyle when I learned about #vanlife. It intrigued me, especially with all the possibilities it could have with a remote job. So I bought and converted a Ram Promaster with the help of friends and road tripped around the US and Canada with it. All while not missing a Zoom meeting and working full-time. It was the first taste of what was possible.

Last winter was spent living in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. A surf and yoga town with one dirt road. My days would consist of surfing, working at a coworking space, yoga, and meals with folks from around the world.

As of 2020, I am living and working from Portugal during COVID-19. After booking flights back to the US to please family and friends and cancelling all of them, it has been another safe, memorable, and eye opening experience abroad. I hope others are able to gain a better understand of the world through travel, and this book helps professionals do it in a thoughtful manner for the new world we live in.

My full-time Work

I work as a full-time remote Growth Product manager for a technology company. To ensure I work well with my team, I work Americas hours and have done so successfully from three different continents.

I’m motivated to do great full-time work as the company entrusts its remote employees and has done a fantastic job developing a supportive and inclusive work culture. That’s saying a lot since all my prior jobs were office based, which demonstrates how distributed companies can build great remote work cultures.
